FROM THE
PASTOR’S HEART
Are you ready for spring and Easter yet? Spring is a time of beautiful flowers.
The grass is growing and the trees are into full blossom. It’s a time of new
beginnings as the spring makes us ready for the summer season. It is fun to hear
about the Phillies and spring training and everything that goes with this time
of the year. I think about “Dollar Dog Nights” at the Citizen’s Bank Park that I
can buy for my wife, Lisa. After one of the most snowiest winters on record, we
are all happy to see spring arrive here this year!
Easter is also a time of wonder and awe. It is a time of
astonishment and wonder. Easter is a time of bewilderment and perplexing
questions. Easter is a day of amazement. What is so amazing about Easter, you
may ask? The women went to the tomb on that first resurrection morning expecting
death and experienced a life changing moment when they were told, “He is not
here; He has risen just like He said.” At this time of the year, it is good to
be reminded all over again, how amazing it is what Jesus has done for us!
They were looking for
Jesus, who was crucified…
Jesus
who was: • arrested • bound • beaten • bruised • battered • mocked • insulted •
punched • beard ripped out by the handful • whipped by a Roman scourge...full of
lead and broken pieces of pottery...and had large chunks of his flesh ripped
out. • stripped naked • nailed to a blood stained cross • crucified • suspended
for 6 hours • who bowed his head at 3:00 pm and returned to the Father.
They were looking for
Jesus, who was crucified…
BUT,
the crucifixion was Friday and Sunday was coming! On Sunday, Jesus, with GREAT
POWER, burst forth from the grave. DEATH could not hold our King! The tomb was
empty. Jesus was resurrected! Jesus was ALIVE! “Do not be afraid, for I know
that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen,
just as he said.”
I am amazed by
the power of Jesus. The power of the resurrection is real and it is life
changing. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead can raise the dead
parts of your life today. Just as Jesus amazed the women so long ago, He can
amaze us today!
What is so amazing about Easter? From Friday to Sunday
everything had changed. On Sunday, sin surrendered its power and hell was
conquered. On Sunday, angels proclaimed good news and heaven celebrated. On
Sunday, the guards were overcome and the stone was rolled away. On Sunday, the
women rejoiced and hope was renewed. On Sunday, death was defeated and Jesus was
resurrected.
Easter is so amazing because Jesus brings life out of death. Jesus brings hope
where there was only despair. Jesus defeats the power of sin and hell. Jesus
loves you more than life itself. He would rather die than be without you. The
only question that remains is: Are you ready to be amazed? Are you willing to be
amazed? Let’s make this Easter a special time of reflecting on the amazing
Savior. I am looking forward to this and thank the Lord for all that He has done
for me and my family this past year, and for an amazing church family. To God be
the glory; great things He has done and is doing. Now that’s amazing!!!
In The Amazing
Savior’s Love,
Pastor Sam
“In the morning, I will sing of your
love.”

TIARA CLUB
Daughters of the King
How great is the love the father has lavished
on us that we should be called children of God!
And that is what we are!
1 John 3:1
Tiara Club is a women’s ministry of First Church. How
exciting it is to recognize our identity in Christ as daughters of the King,
yes, princesses. And that is what we are. Not because of anything we’ve done but
because of the love God has lavished on us. The Tiara Ministry’s purpose is to
provide varied opportunities for fellowship that will encompass interests of the
full magnitude of ladies of our congregation. Attend as many or as few events as
you want but know that we would love to see more of you. No matter what your
age, 10 - 110 as long as you can behave like a lady, (or princess) you are
welcome to join us. We will get to know women in our church, outside of our
Sunday School classes and small groups and have opportunities to reach out to
family members and the community during some events as well as have some
opportunities to be in ministry as we reach out in service. Let’s worship God
through our outreach within these walls as we help to make every lady feel
welcomed. After all, we are all sisters in this, our church family. Consider
this a personal invitation to be a part.

Are YOU on the Tiara Club’s e-mail list?

Collingswood Manor April Showers
The Tiara Club will once again be assisting the Auxiliary
to the Collingswood Manor by collecting items for their annual “April Showers”
event. At “April Showers” the residents are invited to “shop,” at no charge, for
personal items that, as we know, add up so quickly. This savings to their
limited budget is greatly appreciated. Last years’ participation by our church
contributed to the most generous supply of goods ever. Thank you for your
support last year and please feel equally generous this year. The residents
truly appreciate it.
Please bring items from list below to church by Sunday,
April 11th. Place them in the basket outside the church office. All items will
be distributed to Collingswood Manor Residents in their “April Showers” event
sponsored by the Collingswood Manor Auxiliary.

MISSIONARY MESSAGES
Armand and Jean LeBlanc
Armand will again be speaking in an
Irian Fellowship. Pray for his message to be clear as he shares with his limited
Farsi. Some of these folks are going through a class to prepare them for being
baptized at Easter. A big praise is that recently Mo “crossed the line.” He was
the one who said “I don’t understand why my friend Jam wants this but it’s good,
right?” Praise God that his eyes have been opened. Two ladies arrive this month
to join our team. Pray as they begin Turkish study and have to make many
adjustments.
Neil and Wannee Thompson
Mobilization is becoming more and more a
hot topic of conversation. Some talk about mobilization being all about building
relationships. Some still use the word ‘recruiting’, which we look at as the
final phase of mobilization. We like the term ‘investing’, as investing in
people’s lives. Church youth group leaders and counselors and Young Life
influence kids in middle school and high school. Campus Crusade, Intervarsity,
Navigators and others influence college students. Other Christian professional
groups reach out to students in graduate schools, like Christian Medical Dental
Associations, Christian Pharmacists Fellowship International and Nurses
Christian Fellowship. Then, we pick up the baton, influencing young people at
their next stage of life—and towards God’s purposes among the nations.
So think of February
and March as “influence months” at OMF-US. Wannee and her team finished their
first Serve Asia Mission Mentor (SAMM) this year over President’s Weekend. This
is basically a discipleship program in leadership and mission.
Please pray for Neil,
as he joins Eastern Regional Director at the first Heart for Asia Conference in
New York City. Pray for a good turnout.
Barbara & Neale
Goetsch
We
have no greater joy than to be heralds of light and to watch our international
brothers and sisters take their lamps into dark places we could never reach.
After the light of the glorious gospel of Christ transformed the lives of one
Chinese couple, they returned to China and led the husband’s parents to Jesus.
Their remote mountain village was literally dark (no electricity) and
spiritually a very dark place; dense clouds of superstition and suspicion hung
over their lives. Subsequent to their return to the UK, our brother and sister
made weekly telephone contact with the parents, often spending over an hour
discipling them. On another visit, Dad and Mom were baptized (water had to be
hauled by donkey from a distant creek to accomplish the task.) We look forward
to seeing this family and to meeting the parents when we are in England during
April/May. Two other couples in the fellowship also have Chinese parents with
them for six months; the two mothers have believed, but their dads haven’t yet
trusted the Savior. Your faithfulness in praying for us and your part in the
outreach to our international friends certainly brightens our days!
Saints Prison Ministry
Praise God! The new warden at FCI LaTuna decided to let our
team play and minister at all three federal prisons on our Cactus Country
Crusade to New Mexico. Thank the Lord for two decisions for Christ at our
basketball team’s games at SCI Graterford and that 28 men accepted Christ as
Savior at our basketball team’s games at FCI Cumberland in February.
Please pray for the
world premiere of “Touching Base,” the Saints feature-length documentary. Pray
that local media will attend each showing. Ask that God use this film to expose
The Saints to a both a local and nationwide audience.
Walt and Pat Stuart
The
devastation and suffering in Haiti tore our hearts in two! Immediately we were
thrown into action at the Jimani Hospital on the border of the Dominican
Republic and Haiti with nurses and doctors asking for help. Pat found herself
asking a young lady in ICU, “Do you want to live or do you want to die? If you
want to live you will suffer. If you do not wish to live, you will no longer
suffer.” Tough words to say to a 20 year old, yet, the doctor said that if she
didn’t start responding, she would die. After a long silence we heard her
whisper, “I want to live.” In such a time as this, we knew that you were
praying.
Our
Crisis Intervention Team’s days were filled with “debriefing” fellow CrossWorld
missionaries and STEP Seminary personnel. We also had the privilege of training
250 Haitian pastors and leaders on “Debriefing and Trauma,” as well as, training
40 young men and women in “How to Debrief Traumatized Children.”
David and Phyllis Schmid
Two men from the states helped us; one worked with
organizations to get aid following the earthquake and Tom, a structural engineer
confirmed that our STEP building continues to move and is very unstable. David
and Bruce’s offices are near an exit door so they were able to get in and get
things out of their offices. Yesterday Tom and David went out in the
neighborhood and evaluated houses. David saw really sad situations and prayed
with people, though his emotions were hard to control. Some homes were stable
but in need of repairs. Those repairs are something we hope to see happen next.
Mme Lucien and family were living right outside our dining room under a big blue
tarp and were eager to move back to her house. Yesterday after David and Tom
visited the house and said it was stable, they moved everything back to the
house even though it was already dark. With rainy season coming, it would only
get more miserable to be sleeping outside. No major “shocks” or tremors this
week yet and we hope it stays that way. You think it is over and then when
another one comes along, it is just disconcerting.
We want to share a special PRAISE.
During the 3 days of worship services on campus last weekend, over 300 people
prayed to receive Christ as Savior in this one location. Combine that with
services held all over Haiti and you know God’s name was lifted up in praise and
worship over and over again. Pray for the follow-up of these new believers as
they begin their walk with God.
David will be teaching a modular class for 4th year STEP
students in eschatology April 5 -12. He will teach 4 hours each morning for 5
days. This is being done to enable the seniors to graduate this year.
Boxley Boggs
I’m leaving for 11 days of evangelistic piano concerts in Cuba with Sam Rotman.
Sam is an associate missionary with CrossWorld. We are trusting the Lord to save
many during our time in Cuba, and to encourage the believers as well. We had to
pass through a lot of red tape for almost a year to get permissions for this
ministry trip, from both the U.S. Treasury Dept. and from the Cuban Dept. of
Religious Affairs. The Lord knows how to work in unbelievers’ hearts to cut red
tape. We praise Him. Thank you for your prayers for this Cuban ministry!
Jim and Diane Larkin
Diane shares in teaching the book of Colossians in a weekly
women’s Bible study at our home church. Jim teaches the book of Revelation in
adult Sunday School class. After e-mails to leaders of the national church under
which we served in Papua, we have some direction concerning our ministry there
this summer. Diane was asked to speak at a church women’s Bible conference and
Jim will prepare to speak at a youth conference. No doubt there will be other
requests once we arrive in Papua about June 10.
Lorraine Stirneman
An anonymous
donor gave money for an almost new van! This replaced our 22 year-old one, which
broke down. The Lord provided a lovely 2008 15 passenger van with only 33,000
miles! We are SO BLESSED!
I was explaining about OT sacrifices, and how Jesus is the
Lamb of God. After carefully explaining salvation, there were lots of questions
from the children. Finally I said that if anyone wanted to get saved to stay
after class and we would talk with them. THEY ALL STAYED! We reviewed the plan
of salvation and some prayed silently and others orally (asking Jesus to wash
away their sin.) Others received assurance of their salvation. God is at work!
The Tuesday Bible Club has
fifteen children who meet weekly in a house with no heat. During prayer time,
they prayed that children in Haiti get food to eat and houses to live in.
Michael prayed for a boy at his school who lives on the street. I asked, “Where
are his parents?” “They live on the street also,” but then Michael said the boy
always has a clean shirt for school!
----------
April 18 will be a Missionary Sunday!
On April 18th we are privileged to have
Chuck and Janice Walton visiting with us. Chuck and Janice served in the
Philippines for 40 years with Wycliffe Bible Translators and are now encouraging
and training young people to get involved in missions.

WINGS OF PRAYER
God demonstrates His own love for us in
this:
While we were still sinners,
Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8
NIV
Dear
Friends in Christ and Partners in Prayer,
I’m sure you were all happy to put away
the snow shovels and boots until next winter season. The snow that was pushed
into large piles in parking lots is now black instead of white, and will
probably be around until at least June. Betty wrote in the March newsletter that
“God will surely send spring as He does every year.” Guess what? He did! I’m
sure you never had a doubt. God is so good!
We can now feel the warmth of the sun,
and lawns are starting to turn green. The bulbs have poked up through the soil
and the early ones are putting out colorful flowers. We have already ‘sprung’
forward by setting our clocks ahead one hour, which gives us that extra hour of
daylight at the end of each day. The 40 days of the Lenten season have past, as
well as Palm Sunday . This month of April begins at the end of Holy Week with
the reflective period of the Passover Supper; the sorrowing period in the Garden
of Gethsemane, the betrayal, the trial, and Christ’s crucifixion; and then the
joyous and glorious day of Easter celebrating the resurrection. I am reminded
over and over that as Spring brings new life, Christ also can give us new life.
Because He lives, we too can live.
Let us give thanks and praise that Christ is alive and is
coming again. We praise Him also for the Wee Sports Program that ended with a
good turnout of parents and children at the awards ceremony, as well as many who
came to the chicken and dumpling dinner. Pray that these families may come to
our Sunday School and church to learn how God loves them; and that they might
want to be a permanent part of our church family. Regardless of your political
leanings, pray for our President and others in leadership positions that they
may look to God for guidance. Remember Pastor Sam, our other staff members, and
their families.
Especially pray for Betty Averell as she deals with health
issues while faithfully fulfilling her duties as organist, choir director,
teacher, wife, mother, etc. Those on the church prayer list also covet your
prayers. They are the following:
Adriana Gulli, Bill Davis, Rick & Bea Williams, Ed Hill,
Charles Ferrara, Judy Sharp, Ben & Betty Patterson, George Stevens, Joan
Ferrara, Christine Fink, Mildred Smith, Dan Fletcher, Jerry Hunt, Gladys Rambo,
Jane Sacchetti, Charlotte Shindle, Baby Teddy DiOrio, Annie Hartke, Karen
Snyder, Carolyn Alexander, Florence Keller, Janet Johnstone, Lily Reckeweg,
Cynthia Fuester, Warren Creely, Mildred Young, Helen Lewin, Betty Andrews, Jason
Piligno, Rosetta Millbury, Caroline Gerelus, Karen Clay, Paul Gaehring.
James 5:7 states “The
prayers offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him
up.” God heals, faith doesn’t and all prayers are subject to God’s will. Our
prayers are part of God’s healing process and He often waits for our prayers of
faith before intervening to heal someone. Let’s keep these thoughts in mind as
we realize how important our prayers are for those who are sick, as well as
those with other needs. May you all enjoy a happy springtime and have a blessed
Easter.
Love
from your prayer partner,
K. J.
Schmitt

Prayer – Communication with God!
One of the greatest things we can do for
each other is pray. It’s a privilege and joy to ask God to meet someone’s need
or thank Him for blessings. To make it a little easier to get your requests to
the church, we’ve established a dedicated computer mailbox just for prayer. You
can email your praises and prayer requests to prayer@fumccollingswood.org. Only
a couple of staff members will have access to this mailbox. They will take the
information and, maintaining confidentiality, communicate it to our dedicated
prayer warriors.

JESUS LOVES ME (senior edition)
Jesus loves me, this
I know, Though my hair is white as snow Though my sight is growing dim, Still He
bids me trust in Him.
(CHORUS)
YES, JESUS LOVES ME;
YES, JESUS
LOVES ME;
YES, JESUS LOVES ME;
THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO.
Though my steps are oh, so slow,
With my hand in His I’ll go
On through life, let come what may,
He’ll be there to lead the way.
(CHORUS)
When the nights are dark and long,
In my heart He puts a song..
Telling me in words so clear,
“Have no fear, for I am near.”
(CHORUS)
When my work on earth is done,
And life’s victories have been won.
He will take me home above,
Then I’ll understand His love.
(CHORUS)
I love Jesus, does He know?
Have I ever told Him so?
Jesus loves to hear me say,
That I love Him every day.
